Symptoms of Gall Bladder Problems

The pear-shaped organ located under the liver is known as the gallbladder. Its main function is to keep and store the bile coming from the liver. The role of the bile in the digestive process is important because it is responsible for the digestion of fat. However, if the flow of the bile is blocked, then the result is gallbladder disease or gallbladder infection. The blockage of the bile channels is often caused by gallstones. The reasons behind gallbladder disease are different: genetics, age, unhealthy eating habits, rapid loss of weight, obesity, etc. Because of the estrogen hormone the gallbladder disease is much more frequent in women.

Symptoms of Gall Bladder Problems

Knowing the symptoms of gallbladder disease is good since it allows us to react in time and start with the treatment in the early stages of the disease. For example, the symptoms of gallbladder disease are: chest pain, fatigue, nausea, chills, dizziness, vomiting, and intense stomach pain which appears after a heavy meal; the pain is either constant or comes in waves. The pain also goes to the back and between the shoulder blades.

Medical assistance is needed if you notice some of the symptoms. Make sure to consult your doctor about it, and he will have to do some tests and scans in order to confirm the gallbladder disease or infection. The tests for gallbladder problems are sonography, CT scans, and hepatobiliary scintigraphy. We have already mentioned that some of the problems occur when the bile duct gets blocked so it has to be checked too. For the bile duct, we often use a cholangiography.

There are many factors, which will dictate the treatment like age, sex, the medical condition of the patient, etc. Luckily, minor gallbladder problems can be successfully eliminated by using medications and making smaller changes in your diet. In case of severe gallbladder damage, the doctor will most likely recommend the gallbladder to be removed. There are two ways for that: an open surgery which is common in case the gallstones are very big, and laparoscopic surgery, generally conducted when the gallstones are very small. The second type is more popular in patients, and it is considered to be risk-free. Another positive side of the laparoscopic surgery is that it leaves only a small scarring after the surgery. However, always ask your doctor everything you like to know about the steps of the surgery and the possible side effects. As we said, depending on the severity of the gallbladder disease, either you will treat the disease with medicines and proper diet or by gallbladder removal surgery.
